KANCHENDZONGA NATIONAL PARK
The vast expanse
of the Kanchendzonga National Park is composed of rich natural forests with a
variant altitude. The lower reaches of the Park have moist deciduous forests
while the upper reaches have alpine forests. The northern most boundary of the
Park is marked by the famous Zemu Glacier, which gives birth to the Zemu River,
which ultimately flows down into the mighty River Teesta. The western boundary
of the Park is the Indo-Nepal border and is dotted with some of the world’s
most famous peaks such as Mt.
Accessibility: Yuksom, the gateway to the Park, is 140kms from the town of Siliguri in the neighbouring state of West Bengal, which in turn has excellent air, rail and road connections. The Park is approached by a 5kms trek from Yuksom.
