BADARMA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

  BADARMA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY The erstwhile Ushakoti Wildlife Sanctuary, later enlarged in size and renamed Badarma Wildlife Sanctuary in the year 1962, is situated in the outskirts of Sambalpur town. There are strategically erected watchtowers near artificial waterholes to provide a good view of the habitant wildlife of the sanctuary, which includes Tiger, Leopard, Black Panther, Indian Wild Dog, Elephant, Wild Boar, Bison, Flying Squirrel, Chital and Chinkara. A formidable population of Drongo constitutes the main avian population of the sanctuary. The longest dam of the country, the Hirakund Dam, over the mighty river Mahanadi is very nearby. Accessibility : 38kms from Sambalpur, the sanctuary is approached by road. Sambalpur is well connected by rail and road. Accommodation : There is a Forest Rest House inside the sanctuary. One can also stay in the Tourist Lodge and other standard Hotels in Sambalpur. Season : November to June.
