ROYAL BENGAL TIGER The Royal Bengal Tiger is a member of the Panthera tigris tigris population native to the Indian subcontinent. It is highly threatened by poaching, loss & fragmentation of habitat. It was estimated at comprising fewer than 2,500 individuals by 2011. The National Animal of both India and Bangladesh, the Royal Bengal Tigers are great swimmers and they have developed this skill because of their habitat. The mangroves of Sunderbans have made them prone to swimming and they can hunt in the water too with equal efficiency. Bengal tigers also have large, retractable claws that allow them to climb trees and kill their prey and are infallibly cunning.
