QUILON | KOLLAM 67kms north of Thiruvanthapuram near the Ashtamudi Lake lies Quilon (Kollam), shrouded in plantations of coconut and cashew. Travelling in a boat from Alleppy through the famous backwaters of Kerala to its southern gateway is an experience in itself. The Ashtamudi Lake is the centre of attraction of Quilon. With its setting amidst brilliant cashew and coconut plantations, the lake has derived its name from the eight creeks that supplies water to it. Shrine of Lady Velamkanni is a prominent church of the town and Thangasseri, in a beautiful setting, is the remnants of an 18 th century fort.
