COVID-19 & WE HUMANS



Since my very childhood, I have been hearing a very common phrase from my parents, grandparents, teachers & all elders, whenever times were testing, personally or in general, that “Life Is Not A Bed Of Roses”, as you all have probably heard. But today, in a matured age, I can very well understand its implication amidst the bleak pandemic that has engulfed us. We are all marooned in our own homes, closeted by the nefarious Corona Virus, anxiously trying to fathom our future, although there is not even a glimmer of light in the horizon till date. Uncertainty is looming large on our lives – physical, mental & economical. We are suffocating under a diabolic challenge. Our vulnerability is palpable & our existence is at stake. Visuals of streaming dead bodies globally are making us more fearful. We are awed to the hilt. But amidst all this, Life is teaching us oracular lessons.
COVID-19 is not sparing anybody irrespective of class, colour, creed, nationality & religion. Whether one is rich or poor, of certain faith or belief, literate or illiterate, elite or proletariat – the virus is grabbing everyone equally by their collar. That boils down to one thing: First we are all humans & the rest is all man-made hypocrisy. Therefore, equality is primal & inequality is unsustainable. That suffices to say that there is no space for Discrimination on Earth of any sorts pertaining to Humanity.
Secondly, Nature has created so many life forms on this planet but COVID-19 has put the shackles on Humans - the self-proclaimed ‘Superiors’ of the animal kingdom primarily. Why? Because it is we humans who have fingered Mother Nature so much by violating the “laws of nature” in spite of staying in its womb that it has grossly ignited its temperament & switched on its “auto immune” button to cleanse itself of unhealthy pollution that has so grisly corrupted its system. Therefore, henceforth, we must respect & abide by the “laws of nature” thoroughly by not polluting its system any further.
Thirdly, Science is that especial knowledge which facilitates in achieving something of phenomenal wellbeing. But we have misutilised it to the fullest to manufacture weapons of mass destruction foolishly without even understanding that if “mass” does not exist, how does an individual exist? We humans are social animals & can’t exist without a society which consists of “mass”. Therefore, we must now raise our scientific echelon towards commodities of mass welfare & not otherwise.
Fourthly, Economics is an especial branch of social science which is concerned chiefly with the process & system by which goods & services are produced, distributed & consumed by the society at large. There also we flunked. We experimented on hoarding but never paid any attention towards proper distribution. As a result, there is an absurd inequality of wealth & resources available in human hands globally. We need to rationalise it now; otherwise, it will be too late to function properly.
Finally, there is another phrase we heard so much in our childhood but paid little attention to it – “United We Stand, Divided We Fall”. The time is ripe that we all stand up united as a human race & address each other’s problems & give liquidity to the system globally without any discrimination or else, we all may perish. We must review & repair our own flaws & work hand-in-glove to rise again from the ashes & relive a happy & better life in future.

KARERA BIRD SANCTUARY

KARERA This 202 sq km bird sanctuary was created mainly to preserve the highly endangered Great Indian Bustard. The sanctuary houses a huge lake inside, which is replete with birdlife throughout the year. The population of birds in this sanctuary also includes a large variety of Goose, Duck, Flamingo, Stork, Cormorant and Hornbill coexisting with some wildlife like Indian Wolf, Indian Wild Dog, Jackal, Hyena and a variety of antelopes. Accessibility : A 62kms drive from Shivpuri on the Jhansi - Shivpuri road takes one to the sanctuary. Shivpuri is situated 115kms southwest of Gwalior and is well connected by roads.   Accommodation : A Forest Rest House is available inside the Park. Season : November to June.

Sanjay Gandhi National Park A sprawling stretch of 1,938 sq km of predominantly Sal forests, today’s Sanjay Gandhi National Park is the extended version of the erstwhile Dubari Wildlife Sanctuary. Located in the Sirdhi district of Madhya Pradesh, this fabulous Park abounds in Tiger, Leopard, Panther, Wolf, Jackal, Sloth Bear, Sambar, Chital and Nilgai. LAKE LOCTAK – THE GARDEN OF EDEN Being the largest fresh water lake in north-east India, it forms a rare ecosystem. MEHAO WILDLIFE SANCTUARY Like most other sanctuaries of Arunachal, the Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary also has a striking altitude variation from 400feets to 3,500feets, which results in not only a wide variety of flora and fauna but also an equal assortment of milieu. Rainfall in this particular sanctuary is very high, around 490cm per annum. The sanctuary is home to many endangered species such as Clouded Leopard, Hoolock Gibbon, Leopard Cat, Musk Deer, Spotted Linsang and Swamp Deer. Tiger is the main predator. This haven also accommodates about 200 species of butterflies along with an assortment of high altitude Himalayan Pheasants and other birds. CHAMBAL WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Chambal A huge wildlife sanctuary of 3,902sq kms in the Chambal valley, it abounds in wildlife. With a typical central Indian terrain covered with mixed deciduous forests and large grasslands, the Park extends into the neighbouring states of Maharashtra and Rajasthan. The sanctuary houses a major Gharial Sanctuary and Breeding Centre inside. Fauna of the sanctuary includes Tiger, Leopard, Panther, Dhole, Hyena, Jackal, Indian Wolf, Caracal, Chital, Gaur, Barking Deer and Indian Wild Buffalo. The sanctuary is also very rich in avifauna. Accessibility : 65kms from Gwalior, the sanctuary is accessible by road. Gwalior , on the other hand, is very well connected by air, rail and road, which is only 64kms south of Agra and 275kms south of Delhi . GYRFALCON

  GYRFALCON The Gyrfalcon, the largest of the Falcon species, is a bird of prey. The abbreviation Gyr is also used. It breeds on Arctic coasts, Tundra and the islands of northern North America and the Euro-Siberian region. The Gyrfalcon is a very polymorphic species and therefore, its plumage varies greatly. The archetypal morphs are called "white", "silver", "brown" and "black", though they can be coloured on a spectrum from all-white to very dark. The brown Gyrfalcon is distinguished from the peregrine by the cream streaking on the nape and crown and by the absence of a well-defined malar stripe and cap. The black morph Gyrfalcon has a strongly black-spotted underside, rather than finely barred as in the peregrine. White Gyrfalcons are the only predominantly white falcons. Silver gyrfalcons resemble a light grey lanner falcon of larger size. The species shows no sex-based colour differences. The juveniles are darker and browner than adults....

MURUD JANJIRA \ Secluded from the main land by a narrow strip of backwater and built on a rocky outcrop rising from the Arabian Sea, this fort is a marvellous piece of engineering which was once the administrative seat of the illustrious Maratha emperor, Chatrapati Shivaji. The silver-sandy beaches on the main coast with the backdrop of steep forested hills make it an ideal destination to relax and contemplate. JESSORE WILDLIFE SANCTUARY Lying in the Gujrat – Rajasthan border, this dry deciduous forest is basically a Sloth Bear preserve. Other interesting wildlife of the sanctuary includes Leopard, Jackal and Nilgai. Accessibility : About 125kms drive, north of Ahmedabad, reaches one at Palanpur, the nearest town of the Park, which is another 28kms away. Accommodation : Forest Rest Houses are available inside the Park. Season : November to March.
